Die Hard on DVD by Mark D. Hauser
Thank heavens I did not read Roger Ebert's review (2 stars) before I saw this movie back in '88. The review in my local newspaper gave it a great review and I went to see it at the theater and it was better than that. I was blown away by this movie. In fact, I was so blown away by how great it was that it was the only time in my life that I saw a movie twice in the theater. I have seen about a dozen times -- more than any other movie.
This is, quite simply, the best and most entertaining movie that I have ever seen. It has a great hero, a great villain, great acting, a great plot, interesting side characters, unbelievable action and suspense, touching moments, and humor. What more can you ask for from a action flick? To me, action flicks do not have to contain significant social commentary -- their purpose is to entertain. And Die Hard's entertainment value is a 10. Why do you think that this movie has been copied so many times?
Do yourself a favor if you have not seen this movie (you must be young or a follower of a pseudo-intellectual like Ebert), rent it, grab a bag of popcorn, and enjoy the greatest action flick in the history of movies. I am willing to bet it will not be the only time that you decide to watch this fantastic movie.
